The Power of Gratitude: A Simple Practice that makes a big difference.
As the year draws to a close, many of us naturally begin to reflect on the highs and lows, the lessons learned, and the memories made. December, with its mix of celebrations and quieter moments of reflection, offers the perfect opportunity to pause and take note of the things we’re grateful for.
Why Gratitude Matters
Gratitude isn’t just a feel-good exercise; it’s a proven way to boost mental well-being. Studies show that practising gratitude regularly can:
Increase happiness and emotional resilience
Reduce stress and anxiety
Improve relationships and social connections
Foster a more optimistic outlook on life
For children, gratitude is especially powerful. It helps them recognise the positives in their lives, even during challenging times and builds a foundation of emotional intelligence and resilience.
The Gratitude Challenge
This December, as well as including a gratitude challenge inside the Serenity For Girls Academy.
I also launched a 10-day Gratitude Challenge over on my Instagram account to encourage families to embrace gratitude together. It’s a simple, fun, and meaningful way to pause, reflect, and connect.
Each day of the challenge includes two prompts: one for parents and one for children. The prompts are designed to:
Spark conversations about what went well over the year.
Help children reflect on the kindness they’ve experienced and given.
Encourage appreciation for the little things.
These activities are perfect for journaling, but even a casual chat over dinner can make a difference. The challenge isn’t about doing it perfectly; it’s about creating intentional moments of reflection and gratitude.
Gratitude for Children
For children, gratitude can start with simple goals and reflections:
What made you smile today?
Who helped you this week, and how can you show appreciation?
What’s one thing you’re proud of this year?
How You Can Join In
If you haven’t already, it’s not too late to join the Gratitude Challenge. I’ve been sharing daily prompts on Instagram, and you’re welcome to follow along. These prompts are perfect for journaling or simply sparking a thoughtful conversation with your child.
To make it even easier you can get a list of the prompts sent to you so you can do this activity in your own time. Just CLICK HERE.
Reminder!
Gratitude isn’t something to pack away with the Christmas decorations. It’s something that we can carry into the New Year. Whether through journaling, reflecting on small wins, or simply pausing to appreciate a kind gesture, gratitude is a gift that keeps on giving!
As we move into the New Year, I’ll also be hosting the first-ever live session in the Serenity for Girls Academy, focusing on goal setting and believing in yourself.
This interactive session will help girls:
Learn how to set meaningful goals.
Build confidence and self-belief.
Create their own vision boards to inspire them throughout the year.
If you’re interested in enrolling your daughter, now is the perfect time to join!
Final Thoughts for the year!
Remember gratitude is more than a seasonal trend it’s a life-changing easy peasy practice that benefits us all. So whether you’re diving into the 10-day Gratitude Challenge, encouraging your daughter to reflect on her small wins, or simply taking a moment to appreciate the good in your life, know that every little bit makes a difference.
On that note thank you for being part of the Serenity for Girls community. Together, we’re helping to raise a generation of confident, thoughtful, and resilient young women.
Happy Christmas and we will see you soon for our first blog of 2025!
