July is here, and for many parents, the countdown to secondary school has officially begun. The uniforms are being ordered, including the expensive blazer and PE kit lol and let's not forget the pencil cases and stationery! But while we often put a lot of energy into the practical side of preparing for Year 7… what about the emotional readiness?
Because let’s be honest, secondary school is a big leap. And it’s not just about new teachers and timetables, it’s about identity, independence, and learning how to navigate a whole new social world. So, what does “Emotional Readiness” actually look like? It’s not about having all the answers; it’s about helping your daughter build the confidence to ask questions. She doesn’t need to be fearless. She just needs to know she’s not alone and that she’s allowed to feel nervous, excited, unsure, all at once.
Guess what we can help with this! We’ve put together a simple (and totally free) Year 7 Checklist to help you support your daughter emotionally, not just logistically. This checklist was created with real girls (and real parents!) in mind because starting secondary school is so much more than packing the right supplies.
Inside, you’ll find tips, tools, and simple ways to support your daughter’s confidence, emotional well-being, and readiness for the big leap into Year 7.
